“Growing in faith, hope and love by BASKING in the presence of God” -SDH-pttu. by Adele Calhoun

The Pulse of JOY! from a reading this morning…

Perhaps a fitting mindset and framework, for Christians, in which to face the ringing in of 2016 this evening at midnight…

“The world is filled with reasons to be downcast.  But deeper than sorrow thrums the unbroken pulse of God’s joy, a joy that will yet have its eternal day.  To set our hearts on this joy reminds us that we can choose how we respond to any particular moment.  We can search for God in all circumstances, or not.  We can seek the pulse of hope and celebration because it is God’s reality.  Heaven is celebrating.  Right now the cherubim, seraphim, angels, archangels, prophets, apostles, martyrs and all the company of saints overflow with JOY (emphasis mine) in the presence of their Creator.  Every small experience of Jesus with us is a taste of the joy that is to come.  We are not alone — and that in itself is reason to celebrate.  p. 27, Handbook of Spiritual Disciplines, in the section on Celebration, by Adele Calhoun, IVP.

“I discovered that hope is a way of seeing – a type of vision that defeats discouragement!” – Sarah Young

SO love Eastertime!

I don’t know, it’s just super meaningful to me!  I can totally understand how it wouldn’t have any real meaning to a non-believer, and I respect that.  But I think that for Christians it’s the greatest and most joyful and most holy festival of the entire year.  The concept of Easter gives me hope.  It gives me hope for the vulnerable, needy, love-and care-starved children here that God’s called me to stand alongside of.  It gives me hope for myself as I continue to recover, strengthen, consolidate the very last one or two percent of the gains and healings from severe illness that came before.  Easter IMG_1183 gives me SO MUCH HOPE AND JOY.  Of course, really, it’s not Easter that’s giving me these things.  It’s my real and living Lord and Savior and Friend, Jesus.IMG_6307
