Thoughts, this morning, on WRITING (an area that interests me).
Stumbled upon this quote a couple years ago and, really, I believe it may be my favorite quote!
“The greatest thing a human soul ever does in this world is to see something, and tell what it saw in a plain way.” – John Ruskin
And then, talking about this quote, Columbia and Harvard professor Mark Van Doren said, “……………Our very word ‘see’ has two meanings – to see with the eye and with the mind.” “The important thing to glean from Van Doren’s words here is that with training, the power of keen observation and remembering what we see with our eyes and mind can be taught and mastered.” (Andrew McAllen, in his compilation entitled, 10 HABITS OF HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL NOVELISTS.)
Those of us who are interested in writing must train ourselves, must practice, noticing what is around us, breathing it in, so to speak, mulling it over inside our heads and hearts, seeking to understand how it relates to the universe and to this planet.
