Like the term “First Nations”.

I like the way Canada has adopted the term “First Nations” for the original American people groups found within its borders and for those such groups now murdered and gone, whole people groups casualties of white colonialism. I think that phrase would be a good one for U.S. to adopt as well.

To me, the phrase “First Nations” is full of dignity, connotes much promise for the future and avoids the (mistaken, but nevertheless THERE, at least in some minds) colonialist and demeaning nuances of the word “native”.

In Bolivia the term “Pueblos Originarios”, or “First Nations”, is now being used as well.IMG_0575
